Main campaign completed, got one of the regular endings, obtained the true ending, obtained all collectibles, and obtained all 50 hidden messages.
This game has a lot of major issues.
First we immediately noticed stutters and frame rates galore. This game stutters constantly. Additional to stutters, there is slowdown and frame rate dips consistently throughout. It does seem that these issues occur mostly during open areas, but we did notice these issues occurring in smaller areas as well. These issues continued pretty much throughout our entire run of the game. The game does not improve over time.
There is also loading that happens consistently that takes away from the experience. The loading is noticed because the game will freeze in place while a loading character animation will appear on the bottom right of the screen. Once the game loads in, the game will continue. This happens when the game is trying to load in assets or a new area. Sometimes, the game will freeze or stop abruptly as if it is loading, but the animation does not appear on the bottom right hand side. Additionally, when the game is loading, some items will pop out and then pop back in.
There are also other issues, such as characters going through doors. For example, we entered a room where they supposed to keep two animatronics from coming into a room. They would close the door/s and the animatronic would come to the door and begin to bang on it. During these moments, they noticed their arms popping through the door.
The game also doesn’t look very nice, at least in docked mode. It looks decent enough, but assets that are far away are blurry and hard to see. Certain assets were even blurry up close, such as directory signs, posters and even some save points. There is also a camera mechanic in this game, and some cameras were blurry making some items or characters hard to see. Handheld mode looks better, especially on the OLED screen. Colors really pop and dark portions are really black. Plus, on the smaller screen, the game just looks overall better, but it doesn’t improve the blurriness.
When looking at certain cameras, the game would take longer than expected to load in the camera view.
On one occasion, we were crawling through a vent, and the game glitched out so severely, that assets were popping in and out for a few moments, and then they ended up at a completely random area that they were not remotely close to. This only happened once.
Honestly, we can’t in good conscience suggest that anyone purchase the Switch version of this game. The game does have one benefit, which is the fact that it can be played handheld, but honestly that’s not good enough. PC, PS5 and Series X may be the best versions available of this game, though, those versions also seem to have issues such as frame rate issues and multiple bugs. This game is honestly one of the worst ports we have ever played.
