Game plays completely offline from beginning to end.
Every level can be completed and all collectibles (runes, diamonds, KAO letters, and scrolls) in each level are accessible.
Kaopedia (24/24 characters, 17/17 treasures, 8/8 moveset) can be completed without issues.
All 14 “Eternal Well” hidden challenge levels are also available.

There were no progression-breaking bugs encountered during playthrough, but the disc build does lack some polish:

1) Soundtrack and sfx problems are abundant. In most levels and hub worlds, the soundtrack music will not play at all. Sometimes the music would start playing after falling to my death and restarting from checkpoint. Occasionally, the sound effect for objects breaking would not play. Sometimes, during an enemy encounter, the battle music would begin, but would not stop after the encounter is completed; sometimes the battle music would play without an encounter altogether.

2) Speaking of objects breaking, sometimes crates and vases won’t have a break/shatter animation when punched. They drop their coins, but the object does not break and simply disappears after 2-3 seconds. This does not impede progress in any way.

3) Very rarely, platforms that require a fire ground pound to be activated will not begin moving despite igniting them. Requires checkpoint restart to re-attempt and proceed in order to fix this issue if encountered. Since the pause menu does not have a restart from checkpoint option, only “Restart level” and “Go to main menu”, you have to fall to your death or let enemies hit you until you lose all your health. This only happened twice during my playthough, one of them being against the final boss.

4) Very rarely, Kao’s gloves won’t accurately choose the elemental glove when cycling through your three options and will require to cycle through multiple times until they are back in place. This only happened once during my playthrough.

5) When attempting to pause the game when standing somewhere where Kao is prompted to travel (Level entrance, level exit, Eternal Well portal, etc), there is a chance the pause menu disappears with everything frozen and no UI on screen. This may seem like the game locked up, but you can still move cursor up and down with an audible pause menu selection sound to choose an option. Simply keep selecting things until you correctly select “Continue” and gameplay will resume.

If you can brush aside some of these technical shortcomings in the disc build, you will find Kao the Kangaroo perfectly serviceable to experience 100% offline.
