Game requires a persistent internet connection and a Starbreeze account in order to play. Game also requires a paid PS Plus membership to access any heists. Without internet you will not be able to proceed past the title screen.
If you are online it is technically possible to open the game and log in without updates, however it is only possible to play the tutorials without updates as attempting to matchmake for any of the heists results in an error.
It is also impossible to earn any trophies without updates as the trophy list never gets installed.
