This is mostly a multiplayer focused game, however you can play the entire game either with bots or with up to 4 players in offline split-screen matches.

Offline progression is available as you can earn XP from playing any type of match while offline. New customization items can be unlocked randomly by playing matches. Items included with the on-disc DLC are unlocked automatically.

NOTE: The ability to earn XP offline was removed in the 1.50 update. It is impossible to earn XP and basically any customization items after this update. The disc build is unaffected by this as it only includes version 1.42.

While most normal items can be earned offline, there are some premium items in this disc build that were only obtainable via Crates which could only be obtained and opened while online. The Crates feature was removed entirely with the 1.70 update.

If you perform the Konami Code before reaching the title screen, you can unlock a Moai topper for your car. This item cannot be unlocked in newer versions of the game.

As this is a live service game, there have been many updates since the version included on disc that have added more maps and modes, however those same updates also made offline functionality significantly worse, so the disc build contains the best possible offline experience.
