READERS DISCLAIMER: This test is for informational purposes only. This particular version of the game is extremely uncommon and is only available if you preordered the Collector’s Edition over at Limited Run Games. The tester advises to review our Japanese PlayStation 4 test for extra offline playability testing information and to get the Japanese or European PlayStation 4 versions, especially since the downloadable content and the PlayStation 5 upgrade pack is available for download on PlayStation Network regardless of region.
Sonic Generations runs at 60 frames per second and did not have any frame drops.
Shadow Generations due to the more demanding engine used for Sonic Frontiers runs at 30 frames per second with no frame drops.
Sonic Generations content completed:
All S ranks on main levels and bosses, including the hard difficulty versions, minimum challenge requirement for each boss key (about 9 challenges), Time Eater was also defeated without taking damage. The pre-order Bonus Casino stage from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the original game is on the disc and was tested and working as Classic and Modern Sonic.
Shadow Generations content completed: All S ranks on every stage without the Doom Wings, boss and challenge including the hard versions of the bosses and challenges. Devil Doom was also defeated without taking a hit.
72% of the trophy list was completed with 32 collected of all 41 possible trophies. All of them unlocked properly without issue.
There were some bugs encountered in the game, mostly within the Sonic Generations portion of the game.
Sonic Generations bug report:
Seaside Hill Act 1: The Loop right after doing the cannon shot at around middle late end of the stage, classic Sonic was hovering for a few moments before eventually falling down and it was still mostly giltched at a position that the camera was zoomed far out more then it should have been as a result. Tester was able to complete the level this way but does highly recommend a level reset if this happens. This level was replayed and worked as intended.
Silver the Hedgehog Fight: Normal Mode: After hitting Silver during a 2D ramp lane segment for the first time, Sonic gets flinged up high in the air but then eventually gets back up to regular camera control. Hard Mode was completed with zero issues. The fight was also replayed and no issues happened this time.
Time Eater (Final Boss of Sonic Generations): Several bugs reported; 1. The game allowed both Super Sonics to hit the boss some during the second hit phase but immediately was backed off and had to await the hand crush attack before attacking as usual. 2. Right after landing a 3rd hit the Super Sonics were stuck on the bottom left hand corner before they eventually reset. 3. The boss did the final phase where the Super Sonics had to combine their strength not until you got closer to him. Upon replaying the boss for the no hit trophy, the boss mostly worked as normal but still was a minor delay of this final phase as stated in number 3. The boss worked as intended on Hard Mode.
The physical copy comes with Gerald Robotnik’s Manual in physical format and a digital code for the Sonic Adventure 1 Skin for Modern Sonic, hence a internet connection and a North American PlayStation Network account is required to use the content. The advertised PlayStation console exclusive Shadow animated shorts, Dark Beginnings, is not on the disc and is a free download on the PlayStation Network Store.
