Version 1.0 on cartridge.
It was assumed by many that maybe the first Spyro was on the cartridge in full, and the other two games were downloads, just like the initialy PS4 release. However, all three games have the first world available ONLY on the cartridge. Once the first world is completed, that’s it, there is nothing else available without the patch.
Spyro 1: 100% completion on every single level in the first world = Overall completion of the game 17%. When attempting to move to the second world, the message came up “a download is required to access this content”.
You can click “A” for the message to disappear, and continue to play around world 1.
Spyro 2: This one is a bit different from Spyro 1. For one thing, the first world is much larger. There are a total of 8 levels (compared to 5 in Spyro 1), including the hub area, and a boss fight. Once the boss is defeated, the same message appears: “a download is required to access this content“. Unlike Spyro 1, once you click “A” for the message to disappear, the game kicks you all the way out the title screen. From there, you may click start, select which of the three games you want to play and then reload the game all over again.
Spyro 2 can be completed to 30%. Unlike the first game, 100% in every level in the first world is not possible, because you need the climb ability to access certain areas. It is locked in world 2 which can only be accessed with after the necessary download.
Spyro 3:Very similar to the second game. Certain areas require skills/characters that can only be found in worlds that need a download.
Again, once you beat all the available levels, and once you beat the world 1 boss, the game kicks you out to the title screen after bypassing the screen “a download is required to access this content”. Once you beat the boss, you can go back to world one and get access to one more level that wasn’t available before. This level is the “bonus level” featuring Sparx. This is the little flying buddy that follows Spyro around acting as his health bar. He has levels on the third game, and can only be accessed AFTER beating the first world boss. After 100% completion in this level the game reached 24 % total completion.
Performance is solid. Seems to run 30fps. It’s steady and consistent with minor frame drops. The game looks good visually as well. Didn’t notice any issues with the visual presentation. Minor pop-ins.
No DRM. The game also has legal notice when you first start that you have to agree to before continuing, nothing major, just worth mentioning.
With this test, we can officially put all the rumors to rest. No game can be played in full out of the three games. All games only have world 1 included and that is all you get. The download is required to access the remaining portions of the games.
