Version 1.0 on cart. As expected ("download required" banner on the case), we aren’t able to fully complete the game.
There are 11 chapters total, of which 1-5 can be completed entirely. Once the 5th chapter’s final cutscenes play out, a screen pops up saying: “Please download the latest patch to continue”. From there, you can press continue and it loads the character back to the last checkpoint.
Analysing playthrough videos, this amounts to about 50 % of the game being on the cart.
There is a lot of pop-in. There are signs that aren’t readable until they load in, the image is blurry at times, framerates dip (especially during really busy sections), etc.
It’s honestly impressive that the game runs on the switch, but keep in mind that the game was patched to run smoother, so it’s possible that the game ran a bit worse from cart.
You can also access Wolfstone 3D, after completing a few objectives during chapter one. It is a version of Wolfenstein 3D (the original game) but with a twist. The game is essentially reversed, you are playing as a Nazi character going after the heroes. The game seems to be mostly the same as the original with some alterations to a few levels.
The area that must be reached is the hub. Within this hub, there is a club by the name of Club Kreisau, and in this club there is an arcade machine. Here you can access Wolfstone 3D. There are a total of 6 chapters available (same as the original game), all of which loaded just fine. The game runs as if you are looking at an arcade machine, and there is no full screen mode. Save states are also available. It doesn’t seem to be running at full speed, and it runs a tad bit slower but it is still enjoyable!
Recommend creating a manual save slot once you reach the hub level, since there is no chapter select.
There is no DRM. Played handheld only.
Gyro is supported from the cartridge for both the main game and Wolfstone 3D.
